Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church will be held on Sunday, January 24, following an 11:30 potluck meal.  Members who are confirmed and have a record of having communed and contributed in 2009 are eligible to vote. The annual bulletin of reports of the congregation may be picked up from the church lounge anytime after January 16.  Please bring a dish to share (meat, rolls, drinks and table service will be provided) and plan to stay for the meeting.

Winter Bible Study

The adult bible study will resume on Jan. 13. The general topic for the winter/spring session will be "The Bible and Human Relations," with special attention to topics which have been of recent  concern in our church and others, such as human sexuality, straight or same-sex orientation, and the relationship between Christian Love and the love of the Law. As has been our practice, we will begin 6:00 p.m. with a meal.

Women’s Winter  Get-a-way Choir

Fifty-eight women under the direction of  Celeste Faber will begin to rehearse this month for performances in March.  Rehearsals will be Sundays 1:30-2:30 p.m. starting January 3 with the first three rehearsals held here at St. John, the second three at Zion  Lutheran Church (Clarion township, rural LaMoille) and the last three at St. Matthew in Princeton.

The choir was conceived to provide women, 7th grade and up, with an opportunity to discover their best voice including those who’ve sung for years, those who last sang in grade school, those too afraid to open their mouth to sing, those who were told “to sing real softly” when last in choir.  The choir will focus on American Spirituals and Folk songs.

Souper Bowl Sunday

On Sunday, February 7, you are asked by our youth to bring your quarters to church to fight hunger and    poverty.     60% of what   is donated will be given to local food pantries and the remainder will go towards the ongoing “Fill the Ark” project adopted by our Sunday school. The Souper Bowl of Caring is the result of thousands of young people joining together to fight hunger.   This, unique, youth-led movement of caring is transforming the nation’s biggest weekend of football into its largest weekend of giving.
